April Job Openings Rise While Hiring and Separations Decline

Job openings saw an increase in April, reaching 7.6 million, according to the latest data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. At the same time, both hiring activity and overall separations declined, with hires totaling 5.1 million and separations coming in at 5.0 million.

Turnover trends remained relatively stable, as the quits rate held at 1.9 percent and layoffs and discharges stayed at 1.1 percent, signaling continued caution among both employers and workers.


Industry movement varied, with job openings rising in professional and business services while declining in finance and insurance, highlighting shifting demand across sectors.
