There Are Now a Record 5 Million More Job Openings Than Unemployed People in the U.S.

In February, job openings slightly decreased to approximately 11.3 million, still significantly surpassing the number of unemployed workers by about 5 million. The Great Resignation trend persisted, with quits increasing to 4.35 million. This surge in quits, totaling 94,000 more than the previous month, represents 2.9% of the workforce. Despite a slight decrease in job openings compared to January, the number of unemployed individuals contracted further to 6.27 million, resulting in a record gap of 5 million more job openings than available workers, equating to 1.8 jobs for every unemployed person.
