Job Openings Fall to 10.7 Million in June

The number of US job openings fell to 10.7 million in June, a decrease of approximately 605,000 from May, according to seasonally adjusted data released by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics. They were at their lowest level since September 2021.

Still, the number of openings were up year over year.

The number of separations also fell in June when compared to May. Separations includes quits, layoffs and discharges as well as other separations.

Quits are voluntary separations initiated by the employee, and they can serve as an indicator of workers’ willingness to leave jobs. The number quits fell to approximately 4.2 million in June, a decrease of 37,000 and little changed from May.
