Job Openings Rose to Three-Month High

U.S. job openings unexpectedly climbed in December to the highest level in three months while fewer Americans quit their jobs. Vacancies rose to 9.0 million from an upwardly revised 8.9 million reading in the prior month, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey. The December figure exceeded all estimates in a Bloomberg poll of economists.
