October 2024 Job Market Update

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (12/03/24)

In October 2024, U.S. job openings remained stable at 7.7 million, though down by 941,000 from the previous year. Hires and total separations also showed little change at 5.3 million each, while quits rose to 3.3 million, marking an increase of 228,000 from the prior month but a decrease of 308,000 year-over-year. The quits rate rose to 2.1%, signaling increased voluntary job changes, while layoffs and discharges held steady at 1.6 million (1.0%).
